Hawai‘i is a better place thanks to Jackie Young.

During her time as a legislator, a member of the ACLU of Hawaii's Board of Directors, and just as a proud Hawai'i resident, Jackie took part in many battles to advance civil rights locally. Perhaps none were as important as equal rights and equal treatment for all LGBTQ+ people. Jackie’s  decades-long involvement in the fight for marriage equality was legendary. Her leadership was inspiring and it exhibited the power of love, the power of positivity, the power of people who never give up. The ACLU of Hawai‘i joins in the outpouring of deep aloha, love, and respect for Jackie. We’ll never be the same without her, but we will always be better for having known her and learned from her.
