Executive Director of ACLU Hawaiʻi, Salmah Y. Rizvi, presented the poem: “The Freedom of Speech is Dying in our Hands; In this Fight for Justice, Where Will You Stand?", in response to a number of dangerous bills in the federal legislature.
The ACLU of Hawai‘i partnered with the Hawai‘i Innocence Project to honor the life of Marcellus (“Imam Khaliifa”) Williams, who was unlawfully killed by the state of Missouri.
We would like to extend a huge mahalo to all of our community partners for the successful Expungement and Bench Warrant Recall Clinic at the Waianae Library on September 28.

We're excited to invite you to our event, Know Your Rights: Freedom to Assembly on Thursday, May 16 at 12 pm at the UH Manoa Richardson Law School.
The ACLU of Hawai‘i organized an educational presentation for students and activists who wanted to know more about exercising constitutional rights to free speech and when/how public institutions can restrict speech.
In partnership with the Hawai'i Bestuin, the ACLU of Hawai'i held the first Iftar Dinner in ACLU history, along with an Interfaith Community Town Hall.
This event was held at at the Hawai‘i State Capitol by community activists and legislators to highlight the dangers of Hawaii’s MidwiferyRestriction Law (Act 32, HRS 457-J) - an unconstitutional law that criminalizes practitioners of midwifery, as well as postpartum healers who are unlicensed.
